William's Outlook on Life

“I try my best to stay positive because the young people need to see positive role models in their lives.”

William has a positive outlook on life. Every day he wakes up, prays, reads his scripture and heads out for work. As he moves throughout the day, he doesn’t allow the little things make him upset or bring him anxiety. He brings that positive attitude to Central Community House, supporting others who need someone like William in their lives.

He first came to Central Community House when he was 12-years-old. 8 kids, 17 grandkids and 9 great-grandkids later, he continues to be a huge impact on our community. Throughout his life, William has seen firsthand how crime and violence influence the young people in his neighborhood. To him, “things have gotten better, but there’s still work to be done.” So each day, William, known as Mr. Brock around Central Community House, gets to work. He’s been a youth mentor since 1988 and our Transportation Coordinator for over a decade. Each day he provides the same happy, fun and positive experience he had as a Central Community House kid.
